Windy.
Bloody great windstorm last night.
Listen. I hate the wind. I know that it is a ridiculous and irrational fear, and I can't even remotely justify it. No way. I'm not even going to try. It's called anemophobia and people think I'm crazy, but I hate going out in the wind. Well, maybe it's not quite a phobia, but it's close enough to make me look like an idiot.
I remember one time, probably a couple of summers ago, when a small knot of my friends and I went to the now-defunct Denny's just off the first freeway exit (if you're coming from the south. If you're coming from the north, it's the last) in American Fork. I believe it was just me, Jory, Kyle, and Lindsay.
Somehow we all got on the subject of irrational fears. Jory confessed that he was afraid of fish--
ichthyophobia. ("But only in mass quantities! Like fish hatcheries, where the water is roiling with them... no freaking way.") Kyle, after some harrassment, admitted that he was afraid of little people, which has no term. Let's just call it lollypopguildophobia. ("They could bite my knees!") Lindsay readily confessed that she was afraid of moths-- mottephobia. Is there a reason for this? They are harmless little feathered shells of nothing and they die in approximately... well, a short time.
Does everyone have an irrational fear? What's its technical name? I am so curious about this suddenly.

Apart from a perfectly rational fear of spiders (which are evil) I have a fear of tall buildings. It scares me to look up the windows from the pavement.
I'm not sure what the correct name for that is - sorry
At first I thought I just didn't like being tickled, but I've begun to realize that I get panicky and sweaty when it happens. It's called Pteronophobia.
P.S. - Fear of tall buildings is called Batophobia
P.P.S. - Chels, I miss you.

I don't like the wilderness. My hubby tried to take me on a little nature hike once up the hill behind his parents' cabin in the mountains & I had a full-blown panic attack - crying, hyperventillating, I couldn't move, chest pains, shakes, etc.
Now he doesn't make me walk on anything that's not paved.
I have an odd fear of the wind too! It's nice to know that I'm not alone in my fears.
I like the wind...just not when it sounds like a banshee. ~shivers~ I don't like banshees, either. And I have a slight fear of heights.
I don't have a fear of beards but if I did I would have pognophobia.
I have a fear of dogs at night. Just at night, because I can't see them and they are WAY scary at night.
I have quite a few things I'm afraid of, as I'm sure everyone does. But I have severe cases (as in I really freak out and cry/have panic attacks/avoid, etc.)of:
Agateophobia- Fear of insanity or insane people
Automatonophobia- Fear of ventriloquist's dummies, animatronic creatures, wax statues - anything that falsly represents a sentient being
Bathophobia- Fear of depth (as in depth in a pool or some other body of water. If I can see what's below me I'm fine, otherwise I freak out)
Necrophobia- Fear of death or dead things
Teratophobia- Fear of bearing a deformed child or fear of monsters or deformed people. (sorry but deformities really freak me out... I just... can't handle it at all)
I also have a fear of going up stairs because I always feel like there's someone behind me, and I have a fear of closing my eyes because I am basically afraid of anything I can't see. I don't know what those are called though
You know what chels...EVERYTIME it is windy i think of you. Craig laughed at me because we were in bed and it was windy and I rolled over and said I hope Chelsey isn't alone right now! :)
